Benedict Dornyei

Benny completed a BA in Linguistics & Japanese at the University of Sheffield, which included a year abroad at Osaka University – where he later returned to do two more years of study at the Graduate School of Language and Culture.

His interest in writing and performing stand-up and sketch comedy led him to explore the world of Japanese humour, noting the similarities and differences with Western humour, and in Osaka he discovered the double act comedy style of manzai, which became the focus of his academic research.

His love for Japan remains strong while he completes side quests in the UK, such as getting a diploma in theology and working for a charity shortbread bakery.
